A Soldier Returns Home Early from Deployment and Catches His Wife with His Best Friend
Previously: Thomas returned home from a grueling deployment early to surprise his wife, Emily. Instead, he walked into his own living room and found her in the arms of his best friend, James.
A Devastating Revelation
The silence in the room was suffocating. Thomas looked at James, the man who had stood beside him at his wedding, expecting some kind of defense. But James only looked at the floor, unable to meet his gaze. "Get out," Thomas whispered, his voice dangerously low. James didn't hesitate; he grabbed his keys and slipped past Thomas, leaving the husband and wife alone in the wreckage of their home.
Emily was sobbing now, her hands covering her face. "Please, Thomas. You have to let me speak. I know how this looks, but James has only been trying to help me survive."

Thomas laughed, a bitter, hollow sound. "Survive? By cuddling on my couch? While I was risking my life overseas, you were seeking comfort in his arms!"
Emily shook her head violently. She reached into the pocket of her cardigan and pulled out a crumpled sheaf of papers, thrusting them toward him with a shaking hand. "Look at them! Please, just look at them!"
Reluctantly, Thomas snatched the papers. His eyes scanned the letterheads, and the anger in his chest suddenly froze into ice. They were medical bills—dozens of them, totaling tens of thousands of dollars. Beneath them was a pathology report bearing Emily's name, with the words Stage II Hodgkin’s Lymphoma printed in stark, terrifying bold letters. Near the bottom of the stack was a foreclosure notice from the bank.
Emily sank onto the edge of the couch, her shoulders shaking. "Three months after you deployed, I found a lump. The doctor said I needed immediate treatment. I was terrified, Thomas. But I knew that if I told you, you would lose your focus over there. You were in a highly active combat zone. If you were worried about me, you might have made a mistake. You might not have come back to me at all."
She wiped a tear from her cheek. "Our insurance denied the specialized therapy. James found out because he came by to help fix the roof. When he saw me sick, he refused to leave my side. He helped pay for my first round of chemo out of his own savings. He was just comforting me, Thomas. I was having a panic attack tonight because the bank threatened to take the house next week. He was just holding me while I cried."
”He was just holding me while I cried."
