Previously: After ten grueling months deployment, Sergeant Andrew Miller wanted nothing more than to surprise his wife. But the moment he opened his front door, his entire world shattered into pieces.

The attorney on the phone was calling regarding the estate of Andrew’s late grandfather, a quiet, wealthy man who had passed away just weeks prior. The attorney revealed that Andrew was the sole heir to a massive, multi-million dollar estate, including a historical family property and a substantial trust fund. However, there was a specific clause in the will: the inheritance was strictly protected from any marital assets and would become immediately accessible only upon Andrew’s return to American soil, provided he was either unmarried or undergoing a legal separation.

A Sweet Turn of Fortune

Andrew looked up at Ashley, who was still watching him with a smug, victorious grin. He wiped the tears from his eyes and took a deep breath, feeling a sudden surge of strength. "Is that your final decision, Ashley? You want a divorce, and you want me out?" he asked, keeping his voice entirely flat. Ashley scoffed, folding her arms.

"Yes. I want you out of my life, and I'm keeping everything we built," she replied coldly.

Andrew smiled—a genuine, calm smile that completely caught her off guard. He looked her dead in the eye and said, "Fine. You can keep this rented house and the few thousand dollars you stole from our joint account. But you should know that my grandfather just left me his entire estate. It's worth millions, and because of your divorce filing, you won't see a single penny of it."

The color instantly drained from Ashley’s face. She stared at him in absolute horror as the realization of what she had just thrown away set in. She began to stammer, trying to retract her words, but Andrew simply picked up his duffle bag, turned his back on her, and walked out into the crisp night air, finally free. True loyalty cannot be bought, and those who betray others for temporary comfort will always end up losing everything in the end.
