My Son Cast Me into a Rainstorm, Then Begged for My Life Savings
Previously: When Frances was cast out into a cold rainstorm by her own son, she thought her life was over. But a shocking phone call changed everything.
The Desperate Beggar
The next morning, the harsh banging on Frances's apartment door woke her. When she opened it, she was shocked to see Joseph standing in the dim hallway. His hair was disheveled, his eyes were bloodshot, and his clothes looked as though he had slept in them. The arrogant man who had cast her out was gone; in his place stood a desperate beggar.
Before she could speak, Joseph fell to his knees, grabbing the hem of her worn skirt.

"Mom, please forgive me! Ashley ran up massive credit card debts and the bank is foreclosing on the house tomorrow. If you don't lend me the fifty thousand, I'll lose everything!" he sobbed.
Frances's heart twinged with a mother's natural instinct to comfort her child. She reached out a hand, but stopped mid-air. As she looked down the hallway, she noticed a shadow moving near the stairwell. Peering closer, she saw Ashley, wearing a designer trench coat, hiding behind the corner and watching intently.
A cold realization washed over Frances. This wasn't a sincere apology. It was a calculated performance. Ashley had sent Joseph to play on her maternal guilt to extract the very last of her savings. They were still partners in greed.
Frances stepped back, pulling her skirt from Joseph's grasp. "Get up, Joseph," she said, her voice dripping with disappointment. "And tell your wife to stop hiding in the shadows."
Ashley slowly walked out of the corner, her face turning from anxious anticipation to a sneer. "Just give him the money, old woman," Ashley snapped. "You have it sitting in your account doing nothing, and we actually need it!"
Joseph stood up, his tears instantly drying as he realized the act was up. "Mom, you owe me this. You're my mother. You can't just let me fail."
”You're my mother. You can't just let me fail."
