The Unthinkable Accusation

The relief of Noah’s sudden revival was short-lived. While the nurses stabilized the baby, Luke and Megan were ushered into a private consultation room by Dr. Vance, the chief of pediatrics. The air in the room was heavy, and the doctor’s expression was grim as he closed the door behind them.

"What happened in there was a miracle, but it has also raised some deeply disturbing questions," Dr. Vance began, holding a medical file tightly. "We ran an emergency blood panel on Noah immediately after he was stabilized."

Megan clutched Luke’s hand, her heart hammering against her ribs. "Is he going to be okay? What did the tests show?"

Dr. Vance sighed, looking directly at the young couple. "Noah didn't flatline due to natural causes. His system was flooded with a massive dose of a powerful beta-blocker. Someone deliberately introduced this drug into his IV line. Someone tried to end your baby's life."

Megan gasped, pressing her hand to her mouth. "That’s impossible! Who would do such a thing?"

But the doctor wasn't finished. He looked at Luke with a mixture of pity and concern. "And there is another issue. To understand if there was a genetic predisposition, we ran a rapid DNA sequencing. Luke... the results show that you are not Noah's biological father. However, Noah is a one-hundred-percent genetic match as a full sibling to Owen."

The room went dead silent. Luke pulled his hand away from Megan, his eyes wide with shock and rising anger. "Megan... what is he saying? Have you been lying to me?"

"I swear to you, Luke, I have never been with anyone else!" Megan sobbed, her world shattering. "There has to be a mistake. How can he be Owen's brother but not your son?"

Before they could process the impossible medical puzzle, the door burst open. Megan's sister, Sarah, stood in the doorway, breathless and pale. She had been staying at their home to help watch Owen, but she looked completely unraveled. As she reached out to grab Megan's arm, her purse spilled open on the floor, sending a small, empty medical vial rolling right to Dr. Vance's feet.
