Previously: When Florence’s greedy son tries to force her into a retirement home to seize her estate, she reveals a shocking financial secret that completely ruins his plans.

The Tables Turn

Florence sat down on a luxurious poolside lounge chair and picked up a pen from the side table. Julian and Beatrice exchanged a triumphant glance, believing their threats had broken her spirit. But instead of signing the power of attorney, Florence tapped the pen against her chin and looked directly at her son.

"Julian, before we discuss my living arrangements, let's talk about your business, Vance Logistics," Florence said softly. "And specifically, the five-million-dollar secondary mortgage you took out on your own home to keep it afloat."

Julian went completely pale, his hands beginning to tremble. Beatrice gasped, looking at her husband in shock. "Julian? What is she talking about?"

Florence smiled, a sharp, brilliant expression. "You see, Julian, your company has been insolvent for six months. You defaulted on your loans, and the bank sold your debt portfolio to a private investment firm called Apex Holdings. They also purchased the mortgage on your home. If Apex decides to call in those debts, you will lose everything by the end of the week."

Julian swallowed hard, his voice barely a whisper. "How... how do you know about Apex Holdings?"

"Because, my dear son," Florence said, standing up to her full height, "I am the sole trustee and owner of Apex Holdings. Your father and I built our wealth on smart investments, not greed. I bought your debt because I wanted to see how far you would go. And today, you showed me."

She handed the unsigned power of attorney back to the stunned lawyer. Then, she looked at Julian and Beatrice. "You have twenty-four hours to pack your bags and vacate your home, which now belongs to me. I will not be going to Whispering Pines, but you two will certainly need to find a cheaper place to live."

As they walked away in stunned silence, Florence walked back to the edge of the pool. She had protected her home and taught her ungrateful family that wisdom and strength only grow deeper with age.

The End
