I Was Stalked in an Empty Subway—Only to Find My Husband Was Behind It
The Echoes in the Dark
The damp, cold air of the underground subway station clung to Chloe like a second skin. It was late, far past midnight, and the vaulted arched tunnel was entirely deserted. Under the dim, overhead lights, the polished dark stone floors shone like black ice, reflecting the distant, ominous glow of red signal lamps. Chloe pulled her light trench coat tightly around her shoulders, her boots clicking softly against the floor. Every step she took felt amplified, echoing off the ancient stone walls.

At first, she tried to convince herself it was just her imagination, an echo of her own nervous pace. But as she sped up, the heavy thuds behind her quickened in perfect synchronization. When she slowed down, the phantom steps mimicked her exactly. The realization sent a sharp jolt of adrenaline straight to her heart. She was not alone.
"Is anyone there?" she whispered, her voice barely a tremble in the vast, empty space.
No one answered. The only response was the low, electric hum of the station and the distant drip of water. Panic, cold and sharp, seized her. Chloe stopped dead in her tracks. Her chest heaved as she fought for breath, her long dark hair falling over her pale face. Whirling around with sudden, desperate speed, she stared back into the long, empty corridor.
Nothing. The tunnel stretched out into the darkness, completely empty. Yet, the feeling of eyes boring into her was overwhelming. Her instinct screamed at her to run. Clutching her bag to her chest, she bolted toward the exit stairs, her heart hammering against her ribs as she fled the suffocating underground, desperate for the safety of the streetlights above and the comfort of her home.
