Sarah sat at the rusted metal table outside the local burger joint, shivering in the damp autumn evening. Her oversized hoodie barely covered her eight-month pregnant belly. Every breath felt heavy with the weight of her devastating reality: she was homeless, abandoned by the man who had promised to love her, and completely starving. The rich aroma of grilled beef and toasted buns wafted from the kitchen window, making her stomach ache with physical pain. Unable to bear the hunger any longer, she reached toward a plastic tray left behind by a previous customer. On it sat a discarded, half-eaten burger. With trembling hands, she took a bite, tears welling in her eyes.

Suddenly, the heavy glass door of the restaurant swung open. Brenda, a fast-food worker clad in a bright red polo and a matching apron, strode out. Without a word of sympathy, she snatched the plastic tray away from the hungry woman.

"Excuse me, I have to take the tray," Brenda said, her voice flat and detached.

The sudden loss of the only food she had tasted in two days broke Sarah. She collapsed over her knees, clutching her stomach, and wept openly on the busy sidewalk. Passersby ignored her, but inside the diner, someone was watching. Mark, a kind-eyed man wearing a simple grey sweater, stood by the window. His heart ached at the sight of the crying pregnant woman. Without hesitation, he approached the counter, pulling out his wallet. He handed his credit card to Brenda.

"Give her a full meal, charge it to my card," Mark said, his voice quiet but resolute.

A few minutes later, Brenda walked back outside, carrying a freshly wrapped, steaming meal. Her demeanor had softened as she handed it to the weeping woman.

"This is for you, from the gentleman inside," Brenda murmured.

Sarah looked up, her tear-stained face glowing in the soft evening light. Through the glass, she locked eyes with Mark. She clutched her chest in deep, wordless gratitude, realizing that humanity had not entirely abandoned her.
