The Terrifying Secret Hiding Beneath My Elderly Employer's Bed Changed Everything
The Shadow Under the Bed
Vance Manor had always felt more like a museum than a home. As a live-in maid, my days were filled with polishing antique silver and dusting the ornate gold-carved furniture of the master bedroom. My employer, Edward Vance, was a gentle but reclusive elderly man. He spent most of his time resting in his lavish, rococo-style bedroom, wrapped in fine silk pajamas. Despite his kindness, there was an air of heavy melancholy that hung over him, and a strict rule that I was never to enter his room after dark.
But one rainy autumn night, a strange sound broke the silence of the manor. It was a wet, heavy dragging noise, accompanied by a low, desperate whimpering. Fearing that Edward had fallen or was having a medical emergency, I grabbed my flashlight and rushed to his suite. The heavy oak door, usually locked tight, was slightly ajar.

I stepped onto the plush Persian rug, the golden glow of the bedside lamps casting long, dancing shadows across the room. Edward was resting on his gold-carved bed, his silver hair stark against the pillows. He seemed asleep, but his breathing was shallow and labored.
Suddenly, I noticed a dark, viscous puddle oozing from beneath the bed. It looked like thick, black tar. Trembling, I knelt by the bedside and shone the beam of my flashlight into the darkness underneath.
"Oh my god..." I whispered, the words dying in my throat.
My face froze in sheer terror. Crouching in the shadows was a shifting, tar-like entity. It had no defined shape, save for two glowing, sulfurous eyes that locked onto mine. It let out a wet, vibrating growl. I hyperventilated, gasping loudly for air as panic seized my chest. Hearing my distress, Edward suddenly sat up, his eyes wide. I let out a piercing scream and scrambled backward out of the room, leaving the camera of my mind to watch the dark creature slowly creep forward as Edward simply sank back into his pillows, resigning himself to the dark presence.
