The white-walled memorial hall, usually a place of quiet, solemn grief, was shattered by the deafening sound of splintering wood. Mia stood in the center of the room, her hands trembling as she gripped the heavy wooden handle of a chopping axe. She was only twenty-three, wearing her pale green maid's uniform and a white cotton apron, but her eyes held a fierce, desperate determination. Before her, the pristine white wooden coffin sat on dark wooden tressels, its lid brutally smashed open.

A Shocking Interruption

The crowd of wealthy mourners clad in pristine black stared in absolute horror. Arthur Vance, a powerful sixty-four-year-old patriarch with slicked-back grey hair, stepped forward, his expensive three-piece black suit shaking with rage.

"Have you lost your mind?!"
he roared, his voice echoing off the high ceilings.

Mia didn't back down. Tears streamed down her face as she gestured wildly toward the coffin.

"Stop the funeral, she's not dead!"
she screamed, her voice cracking with raw emotion. Arthur lunged toward her, but the sheer desperation in Mia's posture held him back.
"I heard her! I heard her crying!"
she pleaded, looking toward Eleanor, the elegant sixty-nine-year-old matriarch who stood frozen in a dark charcoal dress.

A sudden, heavy silence descended upon the room. And then, from the splintered hole in the coffin lid, a faint, muffled sound broke the quiet. It was a weak, terrified whisper.

"No... don't do this to me..."
Mia gasped, her eyes widening.
"I washed her hair this morning, her hands were warm!"
she insisted. Arthur's face turned completely pale as he looked around in sudden panic.
"Did you hear that?"
he stammered, while Eleanor stepped forward, touching the rough, splintered wood.
"My God... Emma?"
she gasped.
