The Man I Ran From Just Walked Into My Quiet Cafe Sanctuary
Previously: Chloe thought she had finally escaped her controlling husband and built a new life. But when a familiar shadow falls over her coffee cup, her world shatters instantly.
Marcus approached the table with the agonizing slowness of a predator who knew his prey had nowhere to run. He pulled out the chair opposite Chloe and sat down, unbuttoning his dark coat with calm, methodical movements. He looked entirely out of place in the rustic, cozy cafe, a dark shadow blotting out her hard-won peace.
The Price of Betrayal
"Hello, Chloe," Marcus said, his voice a low, smooth purr that made her stomach twist. "You’ve lost weight. Oregon doesn't seem to agree with you."

"How did you find me, Marcus?" Chloe whispered, her voice cracking as she clutched her stomach beneath the table. She hadn't told anyone where she was going. She had changed her name, her phone number, her entire life.
Marcus smiled, a cold, humorless curve of his lips. He reached into his breast pocket and tossed a folded piece of paper onto the table. It was a copy of her apartment lease. Attached to it was a small yellow sticky note with a hand-written address. Chloe recognized the delicate cursive instantly. It belonged to Sarah, her older sister.
"Your sister was remarkably cooperative once she realized her trust fund was tied to my real estate development firm," Marcus said softly.
The betrayal felt like a physical blow. Sarah had been the one who helped her pack. Sarah had promised to keep her secret.
"What do you want?" Chloe managed to ask, trying to blink back the tears of anger and grief.
"I want what is mine," Marcus replied, sliding a second document across the table along with a heavy silver pen. "I know about the pregnancy, Chloe. My private investigator is very thorough. You will sign this sole custody waiver, giving up all rights to the child, and you will never return to Chicago. Sign it, and I’ll let you stay here. Refuse, and I will ruin you, your sister, and everyone you have ever cared about."
