They Cornered Me for My Father's Debt, but They Didn't Know My Real Name
Previously: When a ruthless loan shark corners Elena in a dark basement to collect her father's massive debt, he has no idea that she is actually the undercover boss of his entire operation.
A Sudden Shift in Power
Marcus rubbed his wrist, his eyes narrowing as he glared at Elena. The shock on his face quickly morphed into pure rage. He had spent years intimidating debtors, and he wasn't about to let an apparently defenseless woman make a fool of him in front of his men.
"You think you're tough?" Marcus spat, stepping forward again. "You're just making this painful for yourself. Get her!"
The two henchmen immediately moved off the staircase, their playful grins replaced by grim determination. But before they could take more than a single step, Elena calmly reached into her pocket and pulled out her smartphone. She tapped the screen and held it up, facing Marcus.

"I suggest you look at this before you make a choice you will regret for the rest of your life," she said coolly.
On the bright screen was a live, encrypted feed of the syndicate's primary offshore bank account. Marcus froze, recognizing the private banking interface. As he watched, the balance on the screen rapidly ticked down to zero, followed by a massive transfer confirmation to a holding company called Vanguard Security Holdings.
"What is this?" Marcus demanded, his voice suddenly losing its edge. "How do you have access to that?"
"I didn't just access it," Elena replied, her voice echoing in the quiet corridor. "I bought it. My company has been quietly purchasing your syndicate's debt and assets for the past three months. As of thirty seconds ago, your boss works for me. Which means, Marcus, you work for me."
Marcus stared at the screen, then at Elena, his mind racing to process the information. Trembling, he pulled out his own phone and dialed his boss's private number. The call connected, but it wasn't his boss who answered. Instead, the deep, composed voice of Arthur, Elena's chief of security, came through the speaker.
"Marcus, you are currently standing in front of our new primary shareholder. I strongly advise you to apologize."
The phone slipped from Marcus's fingers, shattering on the concrete floor. The silence in the basement was absolute.
