The air inside the abandoned warehouse smelled of damp concrete and decades of decay. Flakes of rusted iron drifted down from the high rafters, catching the harsh, flickering glare of the overhead fluorescent bulbs. Elena felt the cold brick dust biting into her back as Marcus slammed her against the heavy metal door. His hand, thick and calloused, clamped around her throat, cutting off her breath.

The Shadow of a Debt

"Your father's debt is now yours," Marcus growled, his face inches from hers.

He was a mountain of a man, his muscular frame draped in a dark, form-fitting t-shirt that did nothing to hide his intimidating physical presence. His crew cut and cold, gray eyes screamed of a life spent in the city's brutal underbelly.

On the iron staircase behind him, his two shaved-headed henchmen leaned against the railing. Their harsh, mocking laughter echoed through the empty, cavernous space. To them, Elena was just another helpless victim, a fragile girl caught in a web she couldn't possibly understand.

But they didn't know her. They didn't know the hours she had spent training in hidden gyms, or the secrets her quiet father had whispered to her before he passed.

Elena stared directly into Marcus's cruel eyes, refusing to show a single flicker of fear.

"Do you even know who I am?" she gasped out, her voice defiant despite the pressure on her windpipe.

The henchmen laughed louder, the sound grating against her ears. Marcus grinned, a sinister, confident smirk that promised violence. He thought he had already won.

With a sudden, explosive burst of energy, Elena brought her hands up. Using a precise, brutal leverage technique her father had taught her, she struck Marcus's forearm. The force of the blow shattered his grip, sending him stumbling backward.

She immediately dropped into a low, defensive stance, her dark eyes locked on her captors. The laughter on the staircase died instantly.
