Previously: When Beatrice publicly humiliated Sophia by tearing her dress and exposing her deep scars, she expected her to flee in shame. Instead, a decorated Admiral walked in and changed everything.

The silence in the grand ballroom was absolute. Guests stared in utter disbelief at the sight of the legendary Admiral Vance saluting the woman they had just mocked. Beatrice’s jaw hung open, her champagne glass slipping from her fingers and shattering on the marble floor. Harold scrambled forward, his voice trembling as he tried to defuse the situation.

"Admiral Vance, there must be some mistake. This woman is just... she's a nobody. We were just having her escorted out for causing a scene."

The Shield of Honor

Admiral Vance slowly lowered his hand, turning a gaze of pure ice toward Harold.

"A mistake, Mr. Sterling? The only mistake here is your utter lack of respect for a national hero,"
the Admiral boomed, his voice carrying to every corner of the room. He turned to the crowd, gesturing to the scars on Sophia's back.
"These scars are the result of a classified rescue mission in a hostile zone. Captain Sophia Sterling took the blast of an explosive device to shield three of her fallen soldiers. She is a recipient of the Distinguished Service Cross."

Muttered apologies and gasps of shame rippled through the crowd. The very people who had been laughing seconds ago now looked down at the floor, unable to meet Sophia's eyes. Sophia stood taller, the shame evaporating from her chest, replaced by the quiet pride she had buried for five long years.

But Admiral Vance wasn't finished. He stepped closer to Harold, his eyes narrowing.

"And while Captain Sterling was bleeding for this country, your family's defense firm was illegally pocketing government funds meant for armored plating. We've been building a case, Harold. And tonight, the investigation is complete."
Two federal agents in dark suits stepped through the grand doors, moving directly toward a panicked Harold.
