The silence that followed the booming command was heavy and suffocating. Slowly, the soldiers lowered their hands, and Lieutenant Justin turned around, his smug expression instantly dissolving into a mask of pure panic. A sleek, black military SUV had pulled up to the edge of the yard, kicking up a thick cloud of dust. From the backseat stepped a tall, imposing man in a crisp uniform adorned with four stars. It was General Vance, the regional commander and one of the most powerful men in the military.
Justin immediately snapped to attention, his salute trembling.
"General Vance, sir! We were just conducting standard disciplinary action on a defiant recruit,"Justin stammered, his voice betraying his sudden terror. He desperately tried to block the General's view of Chloe, but it was too late.
General Vance ignored the salute entirely. He marched past Justin, his boots crunching heavily on the gravel, his eyes locked onto Chloe. The fury radiating from him was palpable, making even the seasoned guards step back. When he saw the zip-ties cutting into Chloe's wrists and the bruises forming on her shoulders, his fists clenched tightly at his sides.
Without looking at Justin, the General pulled a tactical knife from his belt and cleanly sliced the bindings from Chloe's wrists. "Are you alright, soldier?" he asked, his voice low and dangerous.
Chloe rubbed her wrists, looking her commander in the eye.
"I am now, sir,"she replied firmly. She had spent months hiding her identity, enlisting under her mother’s maiden name to prove she could survive without her father’s influence. But Justin’s abuse of power had gone too far.
General Vance turned slowly to face Justin, his expression ice-cold. "Lieutenant, you will explain to me, right now, why my daughter was bound and subjected to public humiliation under your orders." The revelation sent a shockwave through the base. Justin’s face drained of all color as he realized the gravity of his mistake.
