Previously: When three arrogant young men tried to violently kick a quiet elderly fisherman off a misty lake dock, they had no idea who he actually was—or the shocking lesson he was about to teach them.

The Tables Turn

Instead of cowering, Thomas stood up. Though seventy-two, his frame was tall and sturdy, carrying the undeniable posture of a military man. Derek laughed, stepping closer to shove him, but Thomas’s reflexes, honed by decades of combat training, were instantaneous. In one fluid movement, Thomas sidestepped, grabbed Derek’s wrist, and twisted it, forcing the young man to his knees on the damp wood. Jason rushed forward, but Thomas released Derek and caught Jason by the shoulder, sending him stumbling backward into his friends.

The three youths gasped, staring at the senior in absolute shock. Jason rubbed his bruised wrist, his face turning a deep shade of crimson from both pain and humiliation.

"You’re dead, old man!" Jason hissed, backing away. "Do you have any idea who we are? My dad is the new Chief of Police in this town, and Derek’s father runs the lumber mill that owns this entire valley! You're going to jail!"

Thomas looked at them, a faint, knowing smile playing on his lips. "Is that so?" he murmured. He reached into his vest, pulled out a satellite phone, and dialed a direct number. "Chief Miller," Thomas said coolly into the receiver. "I have a situation down at the Blackwood Lake pier. Bring Arthur from the mill with you. I think you both need to see this."

The boys smirked, believing the old man had just sealed his own doom. Ten minutes later, the wail of sirens echoed through the pines. Two patrol cars pulled up to the trailhead, and Chief Marcus Miller stepped out, accompanied by Arthur, the nervous-looking mill manager. Jason and Derek ran toward them, shouting their accusations.

"Dad! This crazy old man assaulted us! He needs to be arrested!" Jason cried, pointing back at the pier.

But as Chief Miller walked down the dock and saw Thomas standing there, his face went completely pale. He immediately stopped, stood at attention, and saluted.

"Commander Vance, sir!" Chief Miller said, his voice filled with deep respect. "I had no idea you were back in town."
