Previously: When a wealthy businessman stops by a humble pastry cart, a single bite of a croissant unravels a decades-old secret that changes his life forever.

Act 2: The Confrontation of Two Worlds

The damp alleyway seemed to freeze as Thomas stared at the tattered photograph. The image of the young, smiling woman holding a little boy next to the wooden cart was undeniable. The boy had the exact same birthmark on his wrist that Thomas had hidden under his expensive watch his entire adult life.

"Thomas, what is the meaning of this?" Sarah demanded, her voice sharp with impatience and concern. "This is absurd. You are the heir to a multi-million dollar real estate firm. This woman is a street vendor. She’s obviously trying to scam you!"

But Thomas wasn't listening. The taste of the pastry had unlocked memories he thought were just childhood dreams—the smell of yeast, the warmth of a small kitchen, and a mother's sweet voice singing him to sleep.

"This isn't a scam, Sarah," Thomas said, his voice cracking with emotion. He turned back to Clara, his eyes searching hers. "My parents—the people who raised me—told me that my birth mother sold me to them because she didn't want the burden of raising a child."

Clara gasped, clutching her chest as if she had been struck.

"No! That is a horrible lie!"
Clara cried out.
"They were wealthy and powerful. They used their lawyers to declare me unfit because I was poor after your father died. I fought for you, Tommy! I screamed and begged, but they took you away and threatened to jail me if I ever came near you again!"

The revelation hit Thomas like a physical blow. The people he had called mother and father his entire life had built their family on a foundation of cruel deception. Determined to find the truth, Thomas pulled out his phone and dialed his adoptive father, Richard.

"Father, I am standing in an alleyway holding a photo of my birth mother,"
Thomas said, his voice cold and commanding.
"And I just tasted the pastry she baked. Tell me the truth right now, or I walk away from the family company and never speak to you again."

On the other end of the line, a long, heavy silence followed. Finally, Richard's voice broke. He confessed that they had paid a corrupt judge to fast-track the adoption, terrified of losing the baby they had grown to love, and had fabricated the story of Clara abandoning him to ensure Thomas would never look for her.
