Previously: When Clara was falsely accused of stealing from the wealthy family she served, she was thrown out with her daughter. But the family's loyal butler held a secret that changed everything.

The night after her eviction was the hardest of Clara's life. She and Grace huddled together on a narrow cot in a local community shelter, surrounded by the quiet murmurs of strangers. Clara couldn't sleep. The image of the black-and-white security footage played on a loop in her mind. She knew she was innocent, which meant someone had deliberately framed her. But who had the power and the motive to do such a thing?

As the rain beat against the shelter windows, a memory clicked into place. Days earlier, while dusting the desk in Charles's private study, Clara had spotted a crumpled piece of paper in the wastebasket. It was a final, threatening notice from a high-stakes gambling club, demanding immediate payment of a massive debt. Charles had been desperate. He had stolen his own mother's heirloom necklace to pay off his debts, and framing the maid was the perfect way to cover his tracks.

An Unexpected Ally

But proving it seemed impossible until Clara's phone rang the next afternoon. It was Richard, the butler. He asked her to meet him secretly at a quiet diner on the outskirts of town. When Clara arrived, Richard looked older, weighed down by a heavy conscience. Without a word, he slid a small USB drive across the laminate table.

"The footage Charles showed his mother was carefully cropped,"
Richard whispered, glancing around nervously.
"Charles threatened the security technician to edit out the details. But I managed to download the raw, unedited backup file from the main server before he had it deleted."

Clara gripped the metal drive, her heart hammering.

"What does it show, Richard?"
she whispered.

Richard looked at her with deep regret.

"It shows the thief's hands clearly. On the right ring finger, there is a very distinct gold signet ring with the Sterling family crest. It was Charles. We have to show Katherine, Clara. It is the only way to clear your name."
Clara knew returning to the mansion was dangerous, but she had to fight for her daughter's future.
