A Wealthy Heiress Kneels in the Rain to Propose to a Homeless Stranger
Previously: When wealthy Amelia knelt on a rain-slicked street to propose to a scarred homeless man, she thought she was saving her family. But a sudden voice from the shadows changed everything.
The Shadows of the Past
The older man stepping out of the vehicle was Richard Vance, Amelia’s tyrannical father. For ten years, Richard had ruled the family empire with an iron fist, keeping a dark secret buried deep in the past. Caleb was not just any homeless man; he was the heir to the Sterling estate, a rival company that Richard had hostilely taken over after Caleb’s supposed death in a car accident. Richard had paid off corrupt doctors to declare Caleb dead, dumping the amnesiac young man onto the streets to rot.
But Amelia's grandfather’s will had changed everything. It decreed that the Vance fortune would only be unlocked if Amelia married Caleb Sterling.

"Get away from him, Amelia! He is a nobody, a street rat!" Richard roared, his face twisted in a mask of pure panic.
"He is Caleb! And you stole his life!" Amelia screamed back, standing firmly between her father's guards and the terrified man.
The guards lunged forward, but Caleb, driven by a sudden, instinctual surge of adrenaline, shoved the nearest man into the wet brick wall. He bolted down the dark, narrow alleyway, disappearing into the labyrinth of the city's underbelly.
"Find him! If he remembers who he is, we lose everything. Do whatever it takes to silence him!" Richard hissed to his men.
Amelia knew she had only hours before her father's mercenaries hunted Caleb down. She rushed to her own car, desperate to find him first. The storm raged on as she searched the city, her heart hammering against her ribs. When her phone rang with an unknown number, she answered instantly.
"Amelia... I remember the fire. I remember your father. I’m at the old shipping warehouse by the docks... but they are already here," Caleb's raspy voice came through the receiver.
The line went dead with the sound of breaking glass.
