To prove his words, Liam reached into his pocket and pulled out a crumpled medical report from the city hospital. Lawrence smoothed out the paper, his eyes scanning the clinical terms. It was all true. Evelyn was dying. While he lived in a mansion, the woman he had once loved was fading away in a crowded public ward.

Suddenly, the doorknob rattled violently. Victoria's voice drifted through the thick wood, filled with suspicion. "Lawrence! Open this door right now!
