Previously: When 25-year-old Lawrence mocked 67-year-old Marilyn at the local shooting range, he thought she was just a lost grandmother. But one perfect target and a forgotten name changed everything.

The Return of a Legend

Lawrence’s face flushed a deep, angry crimson. The whispers of the crowd were bruising his fragile ego, and he refused to accept what his own eyes had just witnessed. He stepped into her lane, pointing a finger at her target.

"It's a fluke!" Lawrence shouted, his voice echoing over the hum of the ventilation system. "She probably has some modified laser sight inside that ancient relic. I challenge you to a real shootout, right now. Let's see how you do under actual pressure!"

Before Marilyn could answer, Anthony hurried over from the front desk, his face pale and his breathing shallow. He held the printed registration slip in his trembling hand like it was a sacred text.

"Lawrence, shut your mouth before you embarrass yourself any further," Anthony barked, his voice laced with rare authority. He turned to Marilyn, his eyes wide with reverence. "You are Marilyn Vance. The Marilyn Vance who won consecutive Olympic golds in the eighties and set the unbroken world record."

The range fell into a stunned, breathless silence. The name was legendary among shooting enthusiasts, a mythic figure who had suddenly vanished from the public eye thirty years ago after a devastating car accident took her husband and left her in deep grief. Everyone had assumed she would never shoot again.

Lawrence scoffed, though a seed of doubt had clearly been planted. "I don't care who she was thirty years ago. The sport has evolved. She’s washed up. If she’s really the great Marilyn Vance, she won't mind putting her money where her mouth is. Five shots, extreme distance. If I win, you admit you're a fraud and leave. If you win, I'll pay for your lifetime membership here."

Marilyn looked at the young man. She saw the same arrogance that had once blinded her in her youth, before tragedy taught her what truly mattered. She felt the old competitive fire flare up in her veins.

"I don't need your money, young man," Marilyn said softly. "But I will accept your challenge."

"But I will accept your challenge."
