The midday rush at the Golden Griddle Diner was in full swing. Eighteen-year-old Toby wiped the sweat from his forehead with the back of his arm, his black prep gloves slick with grease as he sliced tomatoes at the prep station. Leo gasped, drawing in a deep, desperate breath of air as his father collapsed in relief.

But before Toby could even breathe a sigh of relief himself, Marcus gripped his shoulder, his face twisted in anger. In front of the entire stunned diner, the manager sneered,

"You walked off the line and disobeyed a direct order. You're fired. Pack your things and get out."

But before Toby could process the devastating blow, Arthur—the boy's father—stepped forward, grabbing Toby’s arm firmly. He held up his smartphone, which was already connected to an active call, and spoke directly into the receiver with commanding authority,

"This young man just saved a child's life. Yes, this is Dr. Michael Carter. Cancel the donor banquet tonight. I have a far more important matter to attend to."
