My Husband Died Years Ago, But My Daughter Just Spotted Him on the Beach
The rhythmic crash of the waves against the shore had always been Elena’s only source of solace. For four long years, she had carried an unbearable weight of grief, ever since her husband David’s sailboat vanished during a sudden, violent storm. The coast guard had found debris, but never a body. Elena was left to raise their daughter, Maya, on her own, haunted by the ghost of a love that ended too soon.
A Ghost on the Shore
Today was supposed to be a simple day of healing. Elena stood on the wet sand, the bright afternoon sun casting long shadows around her. She wore a simple black swimsuit, draped in a sheer beige shawl that fluttered in the ocean breeze. Beside her, six-year-old Maya, with her curly brown hair bouncing, looked out at the water.

Suddenly, Maya’s small hand shot up, pointing toward the surf.
"Mom, look, it's dad,"she said, her voice filled with a bizarre mix of innocence and urgency.
Elena’s heart skipped a beat, a cold dread washing over her. She looked down at her daughter, tears immediately welling in her eyes.
"No, sweetheart, you know your dad died years ago,"she whispered, her voice cracking under the weight of a wound that had never truly healed.
But Maya didn't look away. Her eyes were wide, locked onto a figure emerging from the glistening waves.
"Mom, look at his tattoo!"she insisted, her voice rising in excitement.
Elena turned her head, her gaze tracking the man walking out of the water. He was tall, athletic, with short dark hair and a light stubble. He wore black swim trunks. But as he stepped closer, the harsh sunlight illuminated his right abdomen. There, etched in dark ink, was a detailed portrait of a woman's face.
It was Elena’s face.
Elena gasped, the world spinning around her. Tears streamed down her face as her mind screamed that this was impossible. Yet, there he stood. Without another thought, she gripped Maya’s hand and began to run toward him across the wet sand, desperate to touch the ghost who had just walked out of the sea.
