The air in the grand, crystal-chandeliered ballroom of the Whispering Pines estate was suffocatingly tense. What was supposed to be the society wedding of the year had ground to a horrifying halt. On the pristine white runner leading to the altar, a leather-bound vows book lay open, its cream-colored pages ruined by bright splatters of fresh blood. Kneeling beside it was Victoria, her burgundy dress pooling around her as she cradled her eight-year-old daughter, Emma.

Emma was trembling violently, a deep gash on her forehead slowly dripping crimson onto her pale cheek. She clung to her mother's neck, sobbing softly. Standing just feet away was Sebastian, the groom. Dressed in a flawless, tailored black suit, he looked every bit the high-society gentleman, yet his eyes were cold and devoid of empathy. Beside him stood Eleanor, his wealthy older bride-to-be, who watched the scene with a mixture of disgust and impatience.

"Mommy, it hurts," Emma whimpered, her tiny hands clutching Victoria’s shoulders.

Victoria’s heart shattered into a million pieces. She had only agreed to attend this wedding to maintain a fragile peace for her daughter's sake, but now, her maternal instincts roared to life. She looked up at Sebastian, her eyes burning with a mixture of grief and fury.

Sebastian didn't even flinch. Instead, he adjusted his cuffs and looked down at the bleeding child with utter disdain.

"That's what happens when you raise a thief," Sebastian said, his voice echoing coldly through the silent chapel.

The accusation hung in the air, shocking the gathered guests. He was accusing an eight-year-old of stealing Eleanor’s priceless family heirloom brooch.

"I didn't take it, I promise!" Emma cried out, her voice cracking with innocence. "I was just looking at the flowers, and he pushed me!"

Victoria felt a cold rage wash over her. She knew her daughter would never steal. She glanced around the altar, her eyes landing on a small, black dome nestled in the ornate crown molding directly above them. A security camera.

Victoria slowly stood up, shielding her daughter. She stared directly into Sebastian's eyes, her voice dangerously calm.

"You should have checked the CCTV..." Victoria whispered, her voice carrying a lethal promise. "...before you touched my daughter."

In an instant, Sebastian's smug, arrogant expression crumbled into sheer, paralyzing shock.
