How an Estranged Father Saved His Pregnant Daughter From a Cruel Husband
A Sudden Storm in the Chateau Courtyard
The afternoon sun beat down on the elegant stone courtyard of the Whispering Pines Chateau, but the warmth did nothing to melt the icy terror gripping Charlotte’s heart. Clad in a flowing forest green gown that draped over her visibly pregnant belly, she found herself on the cold gravel, sobbing. Above her stood Mitchell, her husband, his face contorted in a mask of pure rage. The man who had promised to cherish her forever was now tightly gripping her dark hair, pulling her head back with terrifying aggression.
"You think you can run from me, Charlotte? You think you can take my heir and just disappear?" Mitchell hissed, his voice dripping with venom.
Sienna, Charlotte's sister, rushed forward in her shimmering bronze satin dress, her hands trembling as she tried to pry Mitchell's fingers away. "Stop it, Mitchell! She's pregnant! You're going to hurt the baby!" Sienna screamed, her voice echoing off the chateau's stone walls. But Mitchell merely shoved her aside, his focus entirely locked on his terrified wife.
Just as despair threatened to consume Charlotte, a heavy, authoritative step echoed across the courtyard. Out of the shadows of the chateau's grand entrance lunged Alistair. Clad in a light grey wool coat that billowed behind him, the older man with short white hair moved with a speed that defied his age. With a guttural grunt of protective fury, Alistair threw his entire weight into a powerful punch, striking Mitchell squarely across the jaw. Mitchell crumpled to the gravel, groaning in pain.
Without sparing a glance at the fallen man, Alistair immediately knelt beside Charlotte. His stern face softened into an expression of profound tenderness as he gently helped her to her feet. As he pulled her into a warm, protective embrace, Charlotte let out a ragged sob of relief, burying her face into the soft wool of his coat. She was safe, but the secrets that had brought them to this courtyard were about to be dragged into the light.
