How an Estranged Father Saved His Pregnant Daughter From a Cruel Husband
Previously: When Charlotte was cornered by her abusive husband in a chateau courtyard, an unexpected savior emerged from the shadows to change her life forever.
Unraveling a Web of Deceit
Mitchell slowly pushed himself up from the gravel, wiping a smear of blood from his lip. His eyes burned with hatred as he looked at Alistair. "You," Mitchell spat, his voice shaking. "You're supposed to be halfway across the world. You have no right to be here. Get away from my wife."
Alistair stood tall, keeping Charlotte firmly behind his protective frame. "I have every right, Mitchell. I am her father, and I will protect her from a monster like you, just as I should have done years ago."
Charlotte looked between the two men, her mind spinning. For five years, Mitchell had told her that Alistair had abandoned the family, stealing her late mother's estate and leaving them bankrupt. It was Mitchell who had swooped in to 'rescue' her, marrying her and taking control of her life. "Father?" Charlotte whispered, her voice trembling. "Mitchell said you took the money and left us to starve."
"That was a lie, Charlotte," Sienna suddenly interrupted, stepping forward, her bronze dress stained with dust. Tears streamed down her face. "I can't keep quiet anymore. Mitchell threatened to ruin me if I spoke up. Alistair never stole anything. Mitchell forged the papers, locked your father out of the estate, and paid off the lawyers to make it look like Alistair abandoned us."
The revelation hit Charlotte like a physical blow. The man she had trusted, the father of her unborn child, had systematically isolated her from the only family she had left. Mitchell’s face turned pale as his grand illusion began to crumble. He lunged forward again, pointing a finger at Alistair. "You can't prove any of this! The estate is legally mine, and so is she!"
But Alistair reached into his light grey coat and pulled out a thick, sealed envelope. "I didn't come here alone, Mitchell. And I didn't come unprepared."
