The fluorescent lights of St. Jude’s Memorial Hospital hummed with a sterile, clinical efficiency. Emily, a seasoned nurse in her mid-thirties, adjusted her teal scrubs and took a deep breath. It had been a grueling double shift, but her focus remained entirely on Arthur, the frail, elderly patient sitting in the wheelchair before her. Arthur, wearing his signature dark newsboy cap and a worn-out denim jacket, was trembling. Emily reached out to gently check his pulse, but before her fingers could even brush his wrist, a loud commotion echoed from the end of the hallway.

A group of tough-looking bikers in heavy leather vests stepped into the corridor, their heavy boots thudding against the polished floor. Leading them was Marcus, a bald, muscular man whose intimidating presence immediately put the hospital staff on edge. Spotting Emily near Arthur, Marcus’s face contorted in anger. He pointed aggressively, his voice booming through the quiet hall.

"Hey! Did you see that? Get away from him!"

Emily froze, startled by the sudden shouting. As the bikers closed the distance, Arthur reached up, touching his cheek with a trembling hand. Looking up at Marcus with watery, frightened eyes, the old man whimpered a devastating lie.

"She hit me."

The accusation hung heavily in the air. Marcus stepped right up to Emily, towering over her with a menacing glare. His chest puffed out as he warned her in a low, dangerous tone.

"Back off, lady. You don't touch him."

Most people would have shrunk back, but Emily stood her ground. She gestured firmly to her white lab coat and the hospital badge clipped to her pocket. Looking directly into the biker’s furious eyes, she replied with unwavering resolve.

"This is a hospital. You want to help him, you let me do my job."

Marcus stared her down, his jaw clenched, trying to read her face for any sign of guilt or fear. Finding none, he growled.

"Then start explaining."

Finding none, he growled."Then start explaining."
