A Biker Confronts A Nurse Over His Father, Uncovering A Shocking Secret
Previously: When a tough biker leader accused nurse Emily of abusing his elderly father, the hospital corridor turned into a battleground. But a glance at the old man's wrist changed their lives forever.
A Tense Standoff
Emily did not flinch under Marcus’s intimidating gaze. She kept her voice calm and professional, though her heart was hammering against her ribs.
"Your father has advanced stage dementia, Marcus,"
Emily explained, reading his name from the visitor badge pinned to his leather vest.
"He was experiencing a sudden spike in his blood pressure, which can cause severe confusion and paranoia. I was attempting to administer a vital injection to stabilize him. To Arthur, the pinch of the needle felt like a strike. I would never, under any circumstances, harm a patient."
Marcus sneered, crossing his massive arms over his chest.
"I've heard excuses from medical staff before. My father might be confused, but he knows when someone is being rough with him. I want your supervisor, and I want you off his case immediately."
As Marcus continued to bluster, Emily’s eyes drifted down to Arthur, who was now quietly muttering to himself, fidgeting with the sleeve of his worn denim jacket. As his sleeve pulled back, a glint of silver caught the harsh hospital light. It was an old, scratched silver watch with a very specific, hand-engraved emblem of a sailboat on the clasp. Emily’s breath caught in her throat. Her vision blurred as memories she had buried deep within her soul rushed back to the surface.
She stepped closer, ignoring Marcus’s warning growl. Her eyes were fixed entirely on the old man's wrist. She knew that watch. She had spent her entire childhood looking at her mother’s matching necklace, which bore the exact same sailboat emblem. Her mother had always told her that her father had kept the watch when he walked out on them twenty-five years ago, disappearing into the wind and leaving them with nothing but debt and broken hearts.
"Arthur?"
Emily whispered, her voice suddenly trembling, losing all of its professional steel.
"Is your middle name... Vance?"
Marcus stepped between them, his anger flaring up again.
"How do you know his middle name? What game are you playing, nurse?"
Emily looked up at the towering biker, tears finally spilling over her eyelashes.
"Look at the back of his watch, Marcus. Tell me what is engraved there."
