She Was Humiliated For Her Scars, But Then A General Saluted Her
The Gala of Humiliation
The Grand Ballroom was a sea of glittering chandeliers, expensive champagne, and whispers. Valerie Sterling stood near the edge of the room, wearing a simple, elegant white silk button-down shirt. She had not wanted to attend the Vance family’s annual charity gala, but she had a duty to fulfill. Unfortunately, her presence did not sit well with Vanessa, the arrogant blonde daughter of the host, who wore a charcoal sequined dress that cost more than most people made in a year.
Vanessa cornered Valerie in front of the wealthiest guests. With a cruel smirk, Vanessa reached out and violently pulled down the back of Valerie's white shirt. The fabric tore slightly, revealing deep, thick, X-shaped scars running across her shoulder blades. The crowd gasped in horror.
"Look at the freak! Just scars!" Vanessa shouted, her high-pitched voice mocking and venomous.
Arthur Vance, the older man in a classic black tuxedo and the host of the evening, marched forward with absolute disgust on his face. He didn't see a victim; he saw an eyesore ruining his perfect event.
"Security, remove her immediately!" Arthur yelled, pointing an authoritative finger toward the exit.
Valerie didn't flinch. She slowly pulled her shirt back up, her eyes calm and cold. But before security could touch her, the heavy double doors of the ballroom swung open. A highly decorated military General, his uniform adorned with medals of the highest honor, strode into the room with powerful, commanding steps.
The room went dead silent as the General marched straight toward Valerie. He stopped, stood at perfect attention, and raised a respectful, authoritative salute.
"Captain Sterling. Welcome home," the General said, his voice echoing off the high ceilings.
