The fluorescent lights of Oak Creek High's cafeteria hummed with a sterile, oppressive energy. Toby sat alone at a corner table, his navy blue hoodie pulled low over his eyes as he focused on his laptop screen. Around him, the chaotic symphony of clanking trays, loud laughter, and metal lockers slamming shut faded into background noise. Toby was a ghost in these halls, a quiet kid who kept his head down and his secrets close. But to some, his silence was an invitation.

A shadow fell over his table. Toby didn't need to look up to know who it was. Garrett, the school's star quarterback, stood there draped in his bright yellow varsity jacket. Garrett's presence always demanded attention, and today, he wanted an audience. Without warning, Garrett tipped a plastic cup, pouring sticky, bright orange soda directly over Toby's head.

The cold, sugary liquid drenched Toby's hood, dripping down his forehead and onto his keyboard. The cafeteria fell dead silent. Garrett smiled maliciously, leaning in close.

"What's the matter, boy? Cat got your tongue?"

he sneered, looking around for approval from his hovering friends.

Toby closed his eyes. For a long, agonizing second, he just sat there as the soda dripped off his eyelashes. Underneath the hood, a quiet, white-hot fury ignited. He opened his eyes, their usual passive gaze replaced by an icy glare. He stood up slowly, towering over the table, and faced the bully.

"Are you done?"

Toby asked, his voice steady and firm, devoid of the fear Garrett expected.

Garrett's smirk faltered for a fraction of a second before he recovered his smug composure.

"Good,"

Garrett replied, crossing his arms.

Toby didn't flinch. He locked eyes with Garrett, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper.

"Now it's my turn."
