The morning light streamed through the towering, arched windows of the grand metropolitan bank, casting long, dramatic shadows across the polished marble floor. It was a place of immense wealth and quiet whispers, but on this particular Tuesday, the tension near counter number four was palpable. Arthur, a forty-one-year-old bank teller dressed in a sharp, dark grey suit, leaned heavily over the cold white marble counter. His dark hair was meticulously combed, but a bead of sweat was beginning to form near his temple.

Directly across from him stood Leo, an eleven-year-old boy wearing a simple green t-shirt. Leo looked small against the towering columns of the lobby, but his eyes held an uncommon resolve. Standing just a step behind him, tall and imposing, was Officer Davis, a state trooper whose presence kept the atmosphere from boiling over.

"Leave. Now," Arthur commanded, his voice a harsh, low whisper that barely carried past the counter.

Leo didn't flinch. He gripped the edge of the marble counter tightly.

"I want to check my account," the boy replied, his voice steady despite his youth.

Arthur’s eyes darted to the trooper, then back to the boy. With a sudden, desperate movement, he reached out and snatched a distinctive gold envelope from Leo’s hands.

"Where did you get this?" Arthur demanded, his knuckles turning white as he gripped the paper.
"It is mine. My grandmother left it for me," Leo answered honestly.

Arthur’s heart hammered against his ribs. He began typing furiously on his mechanical keyboard, the rapid-fire clicking echoing in the tense silence. His eyes scanned the blue light of the monitor, his expression morphing from anger to sheer panic.

Leo watched him closely, sensing the teller's sudden fear.

"What is my balance?" Leo asked.
