My Wife Forced My Daughter to Clean Our Mansion—Until a Secret Bracelet Revealed the Truth
The Secret in the Foyer
The heavy mahogany doors of the mansion always felt like a barrier between my family and the chaotic world outside. But on that rainy Tuesday, the chaos was waiting for me inside. I had returned three hours early from a business trip, eager to surprise my seven-year-old daughter, Lily, with a soft brown teddy bear I’d bought at the airport. Instead, the moment I stepped into the grand, high-ceilinged foyer, a heavy silence hung in the air, broken only by a soft, rhythmic scratching sound and a muffled sob.
I dropped my briefcase. On the cold, white marble floor, Lily was kneeling in a dusty, oversized denim pinafore. Her tiny hands were desperately gripping a heavy industrial mop, her face streaked with tears and gray water. My heart shattered. "Dad, where are you?" she whispered to herself, too exhausted to notice the door opening.
Before I could even call her name, a cold, sharp voice cut through the air from the grand staircase.
"Why are you home early?"Victoria stood there, a crystal wine glass gripped in her manicured hand, her expression completely devoid of warmth. She looked at our sobbing daughter as if she were nothing more than an eyesore on her pristine floors.
"Why is she on the floor, Victoria?" I demanded, my voice trembling with a mixture of confusion and boiling rage. I rushed to Lily, pulling her up into my arms. She clung to me like a lifeline, her small body shivering violently.
"She’s just learning the value of hard work, David. Don't coddle her," Victoria replied smoothly, taking a slow sip of her wine. But Lily reached into her pocket, pulling out a polished silver bracelet.
"Grandpa gave it to me,"she cried, holding it out to me.
"He said only you should read it. He said I'm the real heir to this house."
