The Hidden Archive

Victoria's face instantly drained of color. She set her wine glass down with a sharp clink.

"She doesn't know what she's saying!"
she interrupted, lunging forward to grab the silver band from Lily’s hand. But I stepped back, shielding my daughter. I looked closely at the inside of the bracelet. There, engraved in tiny, precise letters, was a set of numbers—coordinates—and a date. It was the exact date my father, Arthur, had supposedly slipped and fallen down the grand staircase a year ago.

"Give me that bracelet, David. It’s family property," Victoria demanded, her sophisticated facade completely crumbling to reveal something cold and predatory. But I ignored her. Taking Lily by the hand, I marched past my wife and into my late father's locked study. Victoria chased after us, her high heels clicking frantically against the hardwood.

"If you go in there, David, we are finished! I will take Lily, and you will never see her again!"
she screamed.

I didn't care about her threats anymore. The coordinates on the bracelet led me directly to the antique grandfather clock in the corner of the study. I reached behind the heavy brass face and felt a hidden latch. With a click, a small compartment popped open. Inside lay a thick, dusty manila envelope and a small digital voice recorder.

With trembling fingers, I pressed play. My father’s weak, breathless voice filled the room. "David, if you are hearing this, it means I am dead, and Victoria has succeeded in silencing me. She has been systematically draining the family trust, and when I found out, she threatened to ruin you. Do not trust her, son. The house, the estate... it all belongs to Lily. I've hidden the true will."

I gasped, looking up just in time to see Victoria standing in the doorway. Behind her stood two large, imposing men in dark suits. "I told you to leave it alone, David," she whispered coldly.
