The Mysterious Boy in the Clearing

The overcast sky hung low over the Oregon valley, casting a somber gray light across the grassy field where the Iron Skulls motorcycle club had parked their bikes. Ryder, a rugged biker with a graying beard and a heavy leather vest, was adjusting the carburetor on his chopper when a rustling sound caught his attention. He turned, expecting a stray animal, but instead saw a small boy running through the tall grass. The boy wore a dirt-stained plaid shirt, his dark hair a messy nest. He was clutching something tightly to his chest.

Suddenly, the boy tripped over a hidden root and tumbled hard into the dirt. Ryder winced, stepping forward to help, but the child scrambled to his feet, ignoring his scraped knees. He marched straight up to Ryder, his lower lip trembling as he held out a beautifully hand-carved wooden motorcycle.

"Please, sir, buy it," the boy pleaded, his voice cracking with a desperate sorrow.

Ryder knelt on the damp grass, bringing himself to the boy's eye level. He gently took the wooden toy. It was incredibly detailed, but what caught Ryder's eye was a small, burned-in mark on the bottom—a winged skull emblem. It was Ryder's own custom design.

"Who made this?" Ryder asked, his voice suddenly thick with emotion.

The boy wiped his nose with his sleeve, fresh tears spilling over.

"My dad," he sobbed.

Ryder's heart hammered against his ribs. He gripped the boy's shoulders gently, staring into eyes that looked hauntingly familiar.
