A Father's Worst Nightmare

Richard had always prided himself on being an attentive father. After the tragic passing of his first wife, his entire world revolved around his eight-year-old daughter, Lily. When he married Eleanor, he believed he was bringing a nurturing presence back into their quiet home. But the subtle shift in Lily's behavior—the sudden silence, the fearful glances—prompted him to install a hidden security camera in their grand foyer. He hoped his suspicions were baseless, but deep down, a father's intuition refused to be ignored.

One Tuesday morning, Richard pretended to leave for an all-day business conference. Instead, he parked his car just down the street, pulled out his smartphone, and opened the live camera feed. What he witnessed shattered his heart into a million pieces. Inside the pristine foyer, Lily was on her knees, struggling to push a heavy mop across the gleaming marble floor. Her small frame was dressed in a simple denim shirt, her shoulders shaking with silent, exhausted tears.

Eleanor sat comfortably on the nearby bench, casually eating crackers and watching the little girl struggle. "Clean it again," Eleanor commanded coldly, her voice devoid of any warmth. Lily paused, her tiny hands raw and red from the harsh cleaning chemicals.

"My hands hurt,"
she whimpered, looking up with pleading eyes. Eleanor merely glared toward the hallway, her expression hardening into a cruel mask. "Then cry quieter," she snapped.

Watching from his phone in the driveway, Richard felt a wave of icy fury wash over him. On the screen, Lily begged,

"Please, I want dad!"
only for Eleanor to sneer back, "He won't see this." But Richard, gripping his steering wheel until his knuckles turned white, muttered to himself, "I see everything." Within seconds, he was out of the car, sprinting toward the house. Back inside, Eleanor's smug smile turned to absolute terror as the heavy front door was violently slammed open.
