The Humiliation in the Lobby

The Grand Plaza Hotel lobby was a masterpiece of luxury, boasting polished white marble floors and towering columns that reflected the bright, high-contrast lights. It was the kind of place where the wealthy gathered to flaunt their status. On this particular evening, Katherine was in her element. Dressed in a striking emerald green gown and holding a crystal cocktail glass, she moved through the crowd with an air of absolute superiority. But her eyes were fixed on the floor, where a young woman in a simple cream-colored dress was kneeling.

Sophie scrubbed at a dark spill on the wet marble, her fingers trembling. She had been forced into this humiliating task by Katherine, her cruel stepsister, who took every opportunity to remind Sophie of her low standing. To Katherine, Sophie was nothing more than an eyesore, a servant who belonged beneath her feet. As guests looked on with mild amusement, Sophie kept her head down, trying to swallow the lump of shame rising in her throat.

Suddenly, the heavy glass doors of the lobby slid open. Edward, a powerful and distinguished billionaire dressed in a tailored tan suit, walked in. He carried a brown leather case, his presence immediately commanding the room. But as his eyes swept across the lobby, he froze. His gaze locked onto Sophie, who was still kneeling on the wet floor. Shock washed over his face, replacing his usual stoic expression with utter disbelief.

Seeing the wealthy magnate arrive, Katherine saw an opportunity to show off. She stepped forward with a smug smile, gesturing toward the floor.

"She's just doing what she's good at, cleaning,"
Katherine said, her voice dripping with condescension.

The insult hung in the air, but Edward did not laugh. Instead, his face contorted with a cold, terrifying fury. He reached into his suit jacket, pulled out his phone, and placed it to his ear.

"Cancel everything. Now!"
he commanded. Katherine’s smile vanished instantly, replaced by a look of sheer confusion.
"What?"
she stammered. Edward glared at her, his voice icy.
"This house is no longer yours."
