The Unwelcome Guest

The neoclassical entryway of the Grandwood estate was breathtaking. Towering white marble columns rose toward a domed ceiling, reflecting the bright afternoon light. But on the floor, the pristine beauty was marred by a dark splash of red wine. Kneeling in the middle of it was Clara, her simple white dress soaking up the wet spill as she desperately scrubbed at the stone with a rag.

Standing over her, swirling a half-empty glass of Cabernet, was Evelyn. Dressed in a stunning blue satin gown, she looked down at Clara with a smug, self-satisfied smile. To Evelyn, Clara was nothing more than a nameless temp worker sent to clean up before the evening's grand dinner.

blockquote>"She's just doing what she's good at, cleaning," Evelyn said, her voice dripping with condescension.

The heavy mahogany front doors swung open. Arthur stepped into the foyer. Clad in a tailored navy blue suit and carrying a black leather document bag, his eyes immediately locked onto the scene. His breath caught in his throat. His gaze darted from Clara's trembling hands to his sister's arrogant smile.

A suffocating silence fell over the room. Arthur's face hardened, his jaw clenching so tightly that a vein throbbed at his temple. Evelyn, completely oblivious to the storm brewing in her brother's eyes, took another sip of her wine.

Without a word, Arthur reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone. He dialed a number, his eyes burning with absolute fury as he pressed the receiver to his ear.

blockquote>"Cancel everything. Now," Arthur demanded coldly.

Evelyn blinked, her smug smile faltering. "What?" she asked, looking around in confusion.

blockquote>"This house is no longer yours," Arthur replied, his voice dropping to a deadly whisper.

Evelyn's face fell in utter disbelief, the color draining from her cheeks. On the floor, Clara looked up, her eyes wide with a mixture of sadness and shock, as Arthur lowered his phone, his stern glare fixed entirely on his sister.
