Soldier Returns From Deployment Only to Find His Beloved Grandmother Treated Like a Servant
The heavy oak door of the Miller household creaked open, but the joyful homecoming Sergeant Leo Miller had envisioned for nine long months vanished in an instant. Standing in the entryway, his navy duffel bag clutched in his hand, the young soldier froze. The bright natural daylight streaming through the living room window illuminated a scene of pure, unadulterated cruelty.
On her knees, her frail body trembling under a heather grey sweater, was his seventy-eight-year-old grandmother, Margaret. She was desperately scrubbing the light oak floor, her hands raw and red. Standing over her was Chloe, Leo's cousin, wearing a purple tank top and a sneer of absolute disgust. On the slipcovered couch nearby sat Beatrice, Chloe’s mother, watching with cold indifference.
Before Leo could even call out, Chloe lifted a heavy ceramic mug and poured ice-cold water directly over Margaret’s head.
"Ha! Look at you now, old hag!"
Chloe shrieked, her voice a harsh, mocking scream that echoed through the room. As Margaret gasped from the shock of the cold water, Chloe raised her foot and brutally kicked the elderly woman to the floor. Margaret fell with a soft, pained cry. Not satisfied, Chloe bent down, pressing the hard rim of the mug against Margaret's forehead, laughing at her helplessness.
The sight shattered Leo’s restraint. Years of military training and a lifetime of love for the woman who raised him fused into pure, protective rage. Dropping his duffel bag, Leo lunged forward. In one fluid, explosive motion, he delivered a flying kick that struck Chloe squarely, sending her crashing across the room.
He stood protectively over his sobbing grandmother, his chest heaving, his eyes burning with a fury Chloe and Beatrice had never seen before. "Touch her again," Leo growled, "and you'll answer to me."
