The afternoon sun beat down relentlessly on the dusty highway, but inside the Route 6 diner, the air was cool and smelled of stale coffee and fried onions. Mark sat alone in a worn red vinyl booth, his massive frame dominating the space. At forty-two, with a bald head, a thick dark beard, and a leather vest adorned with old club patches, he looked like a man who had seen too much. He was just trying to enjoy a quiet meal, a rare moment of peace in a life he had spent years trying to rebuild.

Suddenly, a soft tug at his sleeve broke his concentration. Mark looked down, his tough exterior instantly softening as his eyes met those of a little girl. She was around seven years old, wearing a dirty yellow shirt, her face streaked with tears and grime. She was trembling violently, her small hands clutching the edge of the table as if it were a life raft.

A Cry for Help

Mark set his fork down, leaning forward. "Hey. Are you okay?" he asked, his deep voice surprisingly gentle.

The little girl looked straight at him, her lips quivering. She leaned in and whispered five words that made his blood run cold:

"That's not my dad."

Before Mark could even process her words, a heavy shadow fell over the booth. A man around thirty-eight with scruffy dark hair and a menacing posture stepped up behind the girl. He wore a matching leather jacket, and Mark instantly recognized him. It was Brody, a dangerous enforcer from the very motorcycle club Mark had fought so hard to escape. The tension in the diner snapped tight as Brody glared down at them, a cruel smirk playing on his lips.
