When I Found My Fiancée Sobbing in the Kitchen, I Ended My Own Party
A Mother's Cruel Ultimatum
The music from the living room drifted into the kitchen, a lively jazz tune that felt completely at odds with the suffocating silence of the room. Justin had just stepped away from his guests, his heart light with the celebration of his recent promotion. He wore his best dark blue suit, feeling like he was finally securing the future he had always dreamed of for his family. But when he pushed open the double doors to the kitchen, the smile froze on his face.
There stood Chloe, his fiancée, her shoulders shaking as she sobbed over a sink overflowing with dirty plates. She was wearing a cheap, faded blue apron over her beautiful dress—an apron she hadn't been wearing when the party started.
"What's going on here?"
Justin's voice cut through the hum of the party, sharp and laced with immediate concern. From the corner of the kitchen, his mother, Eleanor, adjusted her elegant maroon dress. She waved a manicured hand dismissively, her expression one of utter boredom.
"Don't be so dramatic, Justin," Eleanor sighed. "She just wanted to feel useful. After all, she doesn't really fit in with our guests out there."
Justin felt a cold spike of anger. He stepped closer to Chloe, gently placing his hands on her shoulders and untying the damp apron. He forced her to look at him, his voice softening as he searched her tear-stained face.
"Look at me, Chloe. Did you really want to wash dishes during my party?"
Chloe looked up, her green eyes red and swollen. A fresh tear spilled down her cheek as she shook her head.
"No," she whispered, her voice cracking. "She told me that my place was in the kitchen because I'm just the mother of your daughter, not a real member of this family."
The room seemed to drop ten degrees. Justin turned to his mother, his face pale with fury. He pointed a trembling finger toward the front door.
"My party is over," Justin demanded, his voice dangerously low. "Get out of my house, Mother."
Without waiting for Eleanor's response, he pulled Chloe into a protective hug, holding her tight as his mother gasped in disbelief.
