"You cannot be serious, Justin!" Eleanor hissed, stepping forward. "You're throwing your own mother out for a girl who has brought nothing to this family but a child? I raised you to have standards!"

Justin didn't let go of Chloe, keeping one protective arm around her waist as he faced his mother. The noise from the living room had died down; the guests had clearly heard the shouting and were beginning to whisper. But Justin didn't care about his reputation anymore. "I didn't take the money because I love him," Chloe sobbed. "And you threatened me. You said if I didn't leave, you'd find a way to declare me an unfit mother and take Lily away from us."
