My Rich Wife Made My Elderly Mother Scrub the Stairs While Carrying Our Twins
A Shocking Homecoming
Julian adjusted his tie as he unlocked the massive double doors of his estate. He had cut his business trip short by two days, eager to surprise his wife, Vanessa, and hold his six-month-old twin babies. The house was quiet, save for the faint, rhythmic sound of scrubbing. As Julian stepped into the grand foyer, the sharp scent of ammonia hit his nose. He looked toward the curved walnut staircase, and his heart instantly dropped into his stomach.
There, on her knees, was his sixty-six-year-old mother, Martha. She wore her simple royal blue linen dress, her white hair tied back in a loose bun. Strapped to her back in a heavy fabric carrier were the twins, Leo and Mia, both miraculously asleep despite the rhythmic jarring of their grandmother’s movements. Martha was trembling, her frail hands gripping a heavy brush as she scrubbed the wooden steps.
Standing several steps above her was Vanessa. She wore a pristine white linen shirt and tailored charcoal trousers, her arms crossed tightly over her chest. Her face was a mask of cold indifference as she watched the elderly woman struggle. Rage, hot and sudden, flared in Julian's chest. He dropped his briefcase and rushed forward, his light grey suit a blur as he reached his mother.
"Let me take this,"
Julian said, his voice trembling with a mixture of anger and heartbreak as he reached for the heavy bucket of dirty water.
"No, no, it's fine,"
Martha protested quickly, her eyes wide with panic as she tried to shield the bucket, her voice cracking with exhaustion.
"It's her job,"
Vanessa chimed in from above, her voice dripping with icy contempt. She didn't even blink as she stared down at them.
Julian stood up slowly, his fists clenching at his sides. He looked up at the woman he had promised to cherish forever, feeling as if he were looking at a complete stranger.
"You stand there watching her? You absolute waste of space! I can't believe you!"
he roared, his voice echoing off the high arched windows as Martha covered her face in sheer distress.
