The Outcast Boy Touched the Sacred Hilt and Shattered an Empire's Lie
The Chosen of the Black Canyon
The wind howling through the Black Canyon was as cold as iron. For centuries, the massive, split boulder at the canyon's heart had held the legendary blade, a mythical weapon said to belong only to the true heir of the kingdom. Today, the soot-stained plate armor of Borin clanked heavily against the damp stone as he stepped forward. Borin was the pride of the northern territory, a muscular, dark-haired warrior whose strength was whispered about in every tavern. He believed, with every fiber of his being, that the sword was his birthright.
Borin spat on his calloused hands and gripped the leather-wrapped hilt. He pulled, his muscles bulging and straining against the ancient steel. The heavy plates of his armor scraped loudly in the quiet canyon. Veins stood out on his neck, and his face turned a deep, furious crimson, but the blade remained completely frozen in the stone. Finally, gasping for breath, he let go, his chest heaving under his soot-stained breastplate. He turned back to his troop of hardened warriors, trying to hide his humiliation behind a gruff sneer.
"If I couldn't pull it out, no one can,"he grumbled, wiping sweat from his brow.

But from the back of the troop, a thin, dirt-flecked young man in a worn-out tunic stepped forward. His name was Arthur. To the warriors, he was nothing more than a servant, a boy who polished their armor and carried their water. Yet, as Arthur walked past the towering soldiers, there was no fear in his eyes. He stopped before the massive boulder, looking up at the glowing runes of the sword's grip. With a quiet, undeniable resolve, he spoke to the ancient steel.
"I am Arthur. And I am going to claim you."
Borin laughed, a harsh, mocking sound that echoed off the damp stone walls. But Arthur ignored him. He reached out his grubby hand, his fingers closing around the leather-wrapped hilt with sudden, absolute force. Instantly, a low hum vibrated through the canyon floor, and the runes on the blade began to glow with a blinding golden light.
