The grand foyer of the Harrison estate was a masterpiece of cold, polished limestone and towering classical Greek columns, but tonight, it felt more like a gilded cage. Mariana stood in her dark teal silk gown, her heart pounding against her ribs as she stared at her husband, Ryan. He looked striking but unrecognizable in his black velvet dinner jacket, his eyes filled with a blind, defensive rage. Behind him stood Eleanor, his mother, draped in amber satin, a triumphant, smug smile playing on her lips.

Eleanor had spent the entire evening subtly humiliating Mariana in front of their high-society guests, whispering poisonous remarks about Mariana's middle-class background. When Mariana finally stood up for herself, Ryan didn’t hesitate. He grabbed Mariana and violently shoved her backward.

"Never talk to my mother like that!" Ryan bellowed, his voice echoing off the high ceilings.

The force of the shove sent Mariana stumbling against a marble pedestal. As she recovered her balance, her fingers trembling, she reached down to pick up her fallen black clutch. The sharp edge of her own diamond ring had grazed her cheek during the scuffle, leaving a thin, burning red scratch. Eleanor’s quiet chuckle cut through the tense silence.

Mariana stood tall, ignoring the sting on her face. She locked eyes with the man she had loved for five years and whispered with chilling composure:

"Remember every word you just said."

Without waiting for a response, she turned and walked out of the double mahogany doors. A waiting luxury sedan was idling in the driveway. She climbed into the dark back seat, her hands steady as she dialed a number she had kept in her contacts for emergencies only.

The phone rang once before her family’s lead trust attorney answered.

"Ms. Mariana, the lawyers have activated all the clauses," the voice on the line confirmed.

Mariana stared out into the dark city lights, her expression turning ice-cold.

"Freeze everything," she commanded.
