Previously: When Philip struck his injured stepdaughter Chloe on a luxury yacht, he thought his wealth made him untouchable. He didn't realize her guard was waiting for this exact moment.

The Mask Slips

Philip groaned in pain, clutching his chest as he lay on the hard deck. He glared up at Officer Brooks, his eyes blazing with fury. "Do you know who I am?" Philip roared, struggling to push himself up. "I pay your salary! I will have your badge for this, you useless thug!"

Officer Brooks didn't flinch. He stood firmly between the trembling Chloe and her stepfather, his hand resting on his holster. "I don't care how much money you have, sir," Brooks said, his voice cold and steady. "Assaulting a wounded veteran—and your own stepdaughter—is a federal offense. You are under arrest."

Philip laughed bitterly, wiping a smear of blood from his lip. He looked at Chloe, trying to play his final card. "She's unstable, Officer! She has severe PTSD from the blast. She’s hallucinating. I was only trying to snap her out of an episode. No one will believe her over me."

But Chloe, despite her physical weakness, found her voice. She reached into her military jacket and pulled out a small, blinking digital recorder. She had anticipated Philip's cruelty and had been recording the entire conversation from the moment they boarded the yacht.

"I might be injured, Philip, but I am not stupid," Chloe whispered, her voice trembling but resolute. "Every threat you made, every confession about how you embezzled my late mother's estate, is recorded right here."

Philip’s face drained of color as he realized the gravity of his mistake. The power dynamic on the yacht had instantly shifted, and for the first time in his life, the billionaire felt a cold shiver of fear. He looked at Officer Brooks, hoping to bribe his way out, but the look in the officer's eyes told him his money was worthless here.
