Victoria let out a harsh, skeptical laugh, crossing her arms. "Oh, please, Arthur. Don't tell me you are falling for this charity case's pathetic act? She probably snatched it from some lost-and-found bin to scam you!" But the elderly jeweler completely ignored her. His focus was entirely locked on the jagged edge of the silver medallion.

With trembling legs, Arthur walked to the heavy safe behind the counter. He spun the brass dial, his fingers slick with sweat. From the very back of the safe, he pulled a small, dusty velvet box. When he opened it, Lily felt her heart stop. Resting inside was the other half of the silver locket, its jagged edge matching her own perfectly.

Arthur placed the two pieces together on the counter. With a soft click, they merged into a single, beautiful engraving of a rising phoenix. The fit was flawless.

"Your mother," Arthur whispered, tears streaming down his wrinkled cheeks. "What was her name, child?"

"Her name was Sarah," Lily replied, her voice barely a whisper. "She passed away last month."

Hearing the name, Arthur let out a choked sob. "Sarah was my daughter. She disappeared twenty-four years ago after a tragic accident. I thought I had lost her and my granddaughter forever." But the emotional reunion was violently interrupted. Victoria, furious at being ignored, slammed her hand on the counter.

"This is absurd!" Victoria yelled. "My father owns this entire building, Arthur! If you don't call the police on this thief right now, I will have you fired and thrown onto the street!"

Victoria snatched the reassembled locket, threatening to destroy it. She demanded that security throw Lily out, refusing to let a "nobody" inherit the legendary jeweler's legacy.
