Previously: Nineteen-year-old Landon confronts a wealthy woman outside a luxury boutique, clutching an old photo that reveals a devastating family secret she tried to bury decades ago.

The Unveiling of a Cruel Lie

Elizabeth stared at the wet photograph, her face instantly losing all color. Her elegant composure shattered in a single second. She looked up from the image to Landon’s tear-stained face, tracing the familiar line of his jaw and the deep green of his eyes. Tears welled in her own eyes as she slowly stepped out of the dry luxury car and into the freezing rain, completely disregarding her expensive clothes.

"Landon?"
she whispered, her voice barely audible over the rumble of city traffic. She reached out to touch his arm, but he flinched away, his eyes filled with deep-seated hatred.

"Don't touch me!"
Landon yelled.
"You lived in luxury while Martha and I starved! She died in a cramped, freezing apartment, telling me how you threw me away like garbage because I didn't fit into your perfect, wealthy life!"

Elizabeth shook her head vigorously, tears streaming down her cheeks.

"No, Landon, please listen to me! Martha was my sister, but she wasn't your savior. She stole you from the hospital nursery the day you were born!"
She clutched her chest, sobbing.
"She hated me because our father left the entire estate to me. She swore she would take away the only thing that brought me joy. I spent millions hiring private investigators, searching for you for nearly two decades. I never stopped looking for my son!"

Landon’s mind reeled. The foundation of his entire life, built on Martha’s bitter stories, began to crumble. Before he could process this earth-shattering revelation, a man in a sharp designer suit stepped out of the boutique. It was Richard, Elizabeth’s husband. He held a manila folder in his hand, and his face turned pale as he took in the scene.

"Elizabeth, what is going on here?"
Richard asked, his voice tight.
"Who is this boy, and why are you crying?"
