The Outburst in Courtroom 4B

The air in Courtroom 4B was thick with tension and the smell of old wood. Clara, a nineteen-year-old maid dressed in a pristine black-and-white uniform, sat at the defense table. Her shoulders shook as tears streamed down her face. She kept her eyes lowered, refusing to look at the jury or the crowd of onlookers whisper-gossiping in the gallery. To everyone present, she was a young woman caught red-handed with a million-dollar heirloom. To the Sterling family, she was a convenient scapegoat.

Sitting in the second row of the spectator benches was Leo Sterling, the eighteen-year-old son of the wealthy estate owners. He wore a navy suit that felt suffocatingly tight. Every word the prosecutor uttered felt like a physical blow to his chest. He knew the truth. He knew Clara was innocent, and he knew exactly who had put the sapphire necklace in her room.

"It wasn't her, I saw everything!"

Leo’s voice shattered the courtroom's solemn atmosphere. He stood up abruptly, his wooden bench scraping loudly against the floor. He pointed aggressively toward the front of the room, his finger trembling with a mixture of rage and adrenaline. The courtroom erupted into immediate whispers. The judge began banging his gavel, demanding order, but Leo refused to be silenced.

Clara turned her tear-streaked face toward him, her eyes wide with terror. She shook her head desperately, silently begging him to stop. But Leo looked back at her with fierce determination. He yelled out again, his voice echoing off the high ceilings.

"She was protecting me!"

Before he could say another word, a heavy hand clamped down on his arm. Arthur Sterling, Leo’s father, stepped in. Dressed in a sharp, black pinstripe suit, Arthur’s face was a mask of cold fury. He gripped Leo’s arm with bruising force, pulling it down. "Now," Arthur hissed, his voice a low, threatening rumble. But Leo struggled against his father’s grip, pointing past him toward the gallery. "The guilty one is in here!" Leo screamed as onlookers gasped in shock.

Leo screamed as onlookers gasped in shock.
