Previously: When kind-hearted ice cream vendor Benjamin went bankrupt, he thought his life was over. But a successful woman named Olivia never forgot the promise she made him twenty years ago.

The Battle for the Town Square

Olivia’s luxury sedan pulled up to the curb of the old town square, its engine purring softly against the noise of the bustling street. As she stepped out, her designer heels clicked sharply against the pavement. Just yards away, a cruel scene was unfolding. A ruthless real estate developer named Richard stood over Benjamin, waving eviction papers in his face. Richard’s face was twisted in a sneer as he pointed at the historic wooden cart.

"Your time is up, old man,"
Richard barked.
"This prime real estate belongs to my firm now. Your little toy cart will be in the trash dump by sunset if you don't clear out immediately."
Benjamin looked up, tears streaming down his wrinkled cheeks.
"Please, sir,"
he begged,
"just give me one more week to find a place to store my things. I have nowhere to go."

Olivia stepped forward, her presence instantly shifting the energy of the street. "I suggest you put those eviction papers away," she said, her voice like ice. Richard turned, laughing mockingly at her.

"And who are you supposed to be? His guardian angel? This old loser owes fifty thousand dollars in back rent and unpaid municipal fees. Unless you have a check for that exact amount, get out of my way."

Benjamin stared at Olivia, his eyes blank with confusion. He saw a wealthy, powerful corporate attorney, but he did not recognize the starving little girl he had helped twenty years ago.

"Please, ma'am, don't get involved,"
Benjamin whispered.
"I am finished. I have nothing left."
Olivia looked at him, seeing the same kind eyes that had saved her from hunger. She turned back to Richard with a calm, dangerous smile.
