Previously: On a freezing Christmas Eve, a wealthy matriarch's world shatters when she encounters a shivering street girl humming a familiar lullaby. A lost family secret is about to be unearthed on the most magical night of the year.

The Lullaby's Secret

The wind seemed to intensify, as if trying to snatch the fragile melody away, but it persisted, a thread of pure, heartbreaking sound. Eleanor didn't hesitate. Disregarding the pristine cashmere and the icy slush, she dropped to her knees. The cold seeped through her coat instantly, but she felt nothing but the icy dread coiling in her stomach. Tears welled, hot and stinging, blurring the edges of the scene. The lullaby, so innocent in a nursery, now sounded like a desperate plea against the storm. "Where did you learn that song?" Eleanor's voice was a choked whisper, thick with unshed tears. "That lullaby died fifteen years ago in my stolen daughter's nursery!" The girl flinched violently, recoiling against the cold glass of the boutique, her eyes wide with a primal fear that Eleanor recognized from the streets. Her jaw clenched, a desperate attempt to stifle a sob or perhaps a cry of pain. As the girl instinctively tried to pull away, a sudden, vicious gust of wind tore at her ragged trousers. It lifted the hem just enough to expose a slender ankle, pale and raw from the cold. Encircling it was a tarnished, intricately engraved silver chain. Eleanor’s gaze locked onto it. The design was unmistakable – the Arthur family's winged crest, a symbol of lineage and legacy, now gracing the ankle of this destitute child. A jolt, sharp and electric, shot through Eleanor. It was an heirloom, a piece passed down through generations, a piece that had vanished the night Vivienne was taken. The girl, sensing Eleanor's stare, pulled her leg away defensively, her teeth chattering uncontrollably.

“Don't touch me! My mother locked this chain on me before the shadows took me!”
The words were a desperate defiance, a shield against an unknown threat. But for Eleanor, they were a confession. The chain, the lullaby, the crest – it all coalesced into an unbearable, heart-wrenching truth. Her daughter. Vivienne. Alive. Trapped. And found, on the coldest Christmas Eve imaginable.
