An Arrogant Banker Kicked an Elderly Woman Out, Unaware She Owned the Entire Building
Previously: When a snobbish private banker tries to humiliate a humble elderly woman in his exclusive lobby, he has no idea that she holds the key to his entire career.
The Price of Arrogance
Charles stood frozen as the security alert blared across the marble lobby. His mind raced, trying to make sense of the situation. How could a woman who looked like she belonged in a soup kitchen possess a device that could override the bank's state-of-the-art security system? Desperate to regain control, his panic quickly morphed into anger.
"I don't know where you stole that, but you're in serious trouble," Charles hissed, pointing an accusing finger at her. "Security is on their way."
The elderly woman remained completely unfazed, her hands resting calmly in the pockets of her oversized khaki coat. Within seconds, the heavy double doors of the executive suite burst open. Mr. Sterling, the branch manager, came rushing out, his face pale with anxiety. Behind him were two armed security guards, their hands hovering near their holsters.
Charles smiled triumphantly, believing his moment of vindication had arrived.
"Mr. Sterling! Thank goodness!" Charles called out. "This woman just bypassed our private security with some sort of stolen master device. I was just about to have her escorted out of the building."
Mr. Sterling stopped dead in his tracks. His eyes darted from Charles to the quiet elderly woman standing by the elevator. As his gaze locked onto her face, the manager's breath hitched. The color drained completely from his cheeks, leaving him looking ghost-white. He didn't look at the guards. Instead, he slowly took off his glasses, his hands trembling violently.
"Mrs. Vance..." Mr. Sterling whispered, his voice cracking with sheer terror.
Charles blinked, confused by the sudden shift in the room's atmosphere. He looked at his manager, then back at the woman in the knitted beanie.
"Mr. Sterling? Do you know this person?" Charles asked, his confident smirk beginning to falter.
Mr. Sterling turned to Charles, his eyes wide with fury and panic.
"You idiot," Sterling hissed. "This is Beatrice Vance. She is the majority shareholder of Vance Financial. She owns this entire building—and your career."
